Ramblings from Zambia....

the brown lake.....

Left early morning to travel to Blantyre on what we call the lakeshore road.  Stopped off for lunch at the lake and it had been torrential rain all morning and the lake was really brown - full of mud!  The roads were also very muddy and all the rivers that I had to cross running fast.  The road is in really bad condition with lots of potholes and some parts of the road almost completely washed away!  Am glad to be here in one piece.

Arriving in Blantyre traffic was horrendous and people just drive everywhere.  I was driving along and a minibus taxi was on my left being pushed.  I was on the lane I should have been in.  A lorry coming towards me suddenly pulled out and was heading straight for me - because of the minibus taxi I could not move left and there was a car on my right and one behind.  The lorry kept coming and stopped about an inch from the front of me.   I then realised he had switched the lorry off to stop it and was hoping it would stop in time - he had no brakes!

So am feeling very thankful to be alive. I arrived at 5.30pm and had a meeting at 6pm over dinner which was nice!  More tomorrow!
