Waiting for the rain?

Found these snails sheltering from the blistering sun in the garden today. As I held the leaf to take a photo the ants started investigating too - I wonder what they were looking for?

It was unbearable in the kitchen today as I slaved over the stove baking for tomorrow's market - but I didn't bake any chocolate cakes . . . . ;)
