Broomrigg Plantation
It wasn't always a plantation it was once a sight of historical significance, what with all the stone circles, cairns, small reservoirs and wells. Everything is very well hidden now and it really is a treasure hunt to find these things. We once had Treasure hunt here. It was Indias birthday party and we went to Broomrigg. Mark and Uncle Ade were armed with clues for two teams and the rest of us followed with two excitable teams of eight year olds. After an hour of solving problems, map reading and clue busting we reached our goal in the centre of a stone circle in a deep part of the wood in a little clearing. There was a note - 'IOU one treasure sorry forgot to bring it.' Well it was like the atmosphere was a big balloon and had just had a pin stuck in it.
It is a very lonely deep and dark wood sand some people walk their dogs here but its quiet only the rustling of the undergrowth from some small creature or a dappled sunlit deer or two passing through. A whole host of birdlife . I have seen various Birds of Prey, Little Owls, and Woodpeckers to mention a few. A nice place to go and think or think nothing especially by the shallow lake hidden to most visitors.
