The Old and the New

Went back to the logs. The chainsaw brake failed after more sterling work. But the courier van came with the new axe, aka, the 'Splitting Ax' aka 'The Smasher' in the nick of time.

Some of the maritime pine is bound so hard with branches growing out of the trunk even The Smasher just bounced off them. But after three or four Thor-like blows a crack would open up and the huge rounds would split asunder. (That's The Smasher in the background.)

The wood pile grows. My weight is going down. What's not to like. Of course, neighbours passed by with suggestions of gas stoves and hydraulic splitters. But it was OK.
