Micro-Century!
A talk that lasts for a micro-century - otherwise 50 minutes!
Edinburgh Mathematical Society organised a popular lecture on
in Appleton Tower at the University of Edinburgh. The speaker was Dr Tadashi Tokieda of the University of Cambridge, who
summarises his talk as follows:
'From just a sheet of paper, by folding, crumpling, tearing, we will
explore a rich variety of mathematical sciences, from a magic trick and
geometry to elasticity and the traditional Japanese art of origami.
Most of the show consists of actual table-top demos, which you can later share with friends and family at home.'
An engaging speaker with an interest in some of the quirkier applications of maths and physics. Search for "Tadashi Tokieda" or "Toys in Applied Mathematics" on Youtube, or see his webpage at https://www.dpmms.cam.ac.uk/~tokieda/
