What a day.

A quick cycle up to school to deliver the little ones and back home again to stick a wash load in and cut the grass in the back garden before heading out to our lovely local French deli for coffee with my pal. As is our want on a Thursday morning we drank americanos and shared a chocolate twist and had a good old chat. Will blip the lovely shellyskell next time, if she lets me ;)

Picked the little one up from nursery and suggested a play in the park but he wanted to go on a big bike ride instead, so we cycled straight from school round the 3km Keithhall circuit through estate roads and woodlands.

Back to school a couple of hours later to pick up the older one and head off on a promised adventure to Gight Woods to see if we could see the perigean falcon I saw last week. We didn't see or hear any big birds in the end but had a truly wonderful post school adventure in the blazing sunshine; cycling, walking, getting up close and personal with cows and their calves, passing ruins, watching herons and lying in silence in the long grass waiting for glimpses of otters or red squirrels and such like.

Of course all this adventuring on a school night is not without consequence and does mean a late and somewhat slap dash tea and an even later bedtime but I'm happy with that every so often. As I watched my little ones finally get to sleep on mattresses in my bedroom (theirs is too hot tonight!) I looked at their sunkissed and happy faces and was proud of their miles of cycling and running (after a day at school) and pleased we went. Club penguin and Scooby Doo can wait for the rain.
