Oor Wullie

This week's Tuesday walk with Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Ramblers was a straightforward walk along the Forth & Clyde Canal from Bonnybridge to the Falkirk Wheel then back to Bonnybridge via Rough Castle.

The early promise of sunshine quickly dissipated and we had rain, sleet and hail for much of the walk. That wasn't too bad on the outward leg, but the return journey via Rough Castle was miserable and any attempts at photography resulted in nothing more than a rain-spattered lens. Also, the Falkirk Wheel is still on its winter timetable, which means that the shop and visitor centre (and toilets!) were closed when we visited and the Wheel itself wasn't operating.

The Visit Scotland tourist information centre at the Wheel had this rather odd-looking Oor Wullie doll in its window. Not sure whether they were trying to attract visitors or scare them away.
