Departure?
As I set off from Glasgow Airport on my seven-week journey to Australia, hundreds of thousands of Scots were voting in the Independence Referendum. For all of us, holidaymaker and elector alike, it was a journey into the unknown and none of really knew what the future might hold.
It seemed odd, and mildly amusing, to be standing just outside the departure lounge knowing that my country might just be about to make a departure of its own. As it happened, the voters of Scotland opted to remain within the United Kingdom, but I knew that whatever the outcome, I would be returning to a different country in seven weeks time.
