Feliz Cumple Abraham!!

It was little Abraham's birthday today and I had an excellent day! I have always loved birthdays so that could be why, and we didn't have any class today, we just had a party day for Abraham which could also explain why I had such a good day.

I bought him a pack of 2 cars and some balloons yesterday. As we arrived at the school Brie was busy hugging Abraham and wishing him a happy birthday. However, he was far too focussed on the cars and attached balloon that I was carrying. When I tried to give him a hug, he could barely contain himself shouting 'que es eso, que es eso?' (what's that?) over and over again. It was amazing to see how happy this gift made him and he spent the rest of the day carrying the little cars around and not allowing them to leave his little hands.

We had a great party day whilst Oscar and a few helpers began the construction work on the school. They're finishing off the building work as it had quite a messy finish and they're also installing toilets. As they were all breaking a sweat with the manual labour under the intense morning sun we were breaking a sweat chasing after the kids and playing games to keep them entertained. We played musical chairs, the wolf in the forest, sang the alphabet song numerous times and even managed to do some reading! Brie, Carla and I were also interviewed for the video for the foundation. Then it was time for cake and cola and to sing happy birthday in English and Spanish and give Abraham the birthday bumps! The day passed so quickly cause we all had so much fun :)

It was then back to the hostel and straight into the pool. After an hour or so of chilling Brie and I decided to head to the Simon Bolivar museum nearby. It's a very pretty, planty place and surprisingly big with lots of walkways and ponds. We walked around all the buildings, learned a little history, saw a lot of art and got eaten alive by the bugs, which ended up cutting our day short! On the way back we stopped off at the supermarket for our ingredients for dinner...onion pasta with guacamole and crackers yum! It was very simple but surprisingly satisfying.

I napped before dinner and afterwards we had the quiz which I didn't contribute much to due to getting ready for a night in Rodadero. However the quiz was a success and we ended up raising the greatest amount of donations yet! Around 12pm Carla and her friends, Brie and I headed to Rodadero to meet the other volunteers. We were at a lovely little bar right next to the beach and had a few drinks there, including some crazy shots made especially for us by the bar tenders. It was a fun, yet early night since we're up early tomorrow. Brie and I got back to the hostel for 2am, tested out the new hammock (obviously) and headed to bed. Although there was company in mine...the cat (gross!), I had a bit of a heart attack and had to fetch Brie to kick it out!
