Times Of My Life

By CarolB

That time again

I've been taking part in a medical trial which is testing the efficiency of a blood test for the early detection of lung cancer.  I fit all the criteria; healthy, of a certain age; and either a smoker or ex-smoker (ex, in my case - 12 years, 2 months, 22 days, not that I'm counting!).

A couple of times a year I climb on the bus in Perth, trundle through to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee to the Clinical Research Centre, and either have a CT Thorax scan, or an x-ray.  Easy peasy, and very pleasant because I just chill on the bus and read my book, while recognising that I'm much luckier than most people on a bus heading to hospital.

Walking in the main entrance is a bit like entering an airport, as you are just met with a mass of humanity coming towards you, thronging the concourse which is full of takeaway cafes and shops, a hairdresser, beauty salon, newsagent etc.

I got my scan, hopped on the next bus home, and now I'm getting ready for a peaceful night in front of the telly watching a movie I recorded last night.

Just heard on the radio that Mr Spock (Leonard Nimoy) has died.  There goes another bit of childhood.
