L-Imdina, with history tracing back over 4000 yrs.

This is L-Imdina, Malta's most hauntingly beautiful city.
Together with nearby Ir-Rabat it was once part of the same settlement, but the Arabs walled off the former, turning it into a fortress city.
Still caught within thick and impregnable walls, this city has barely changed in centuries.
The elegant palaces within are still home to ancient Maltese families.
The views from the battlements are vast, taking in most of the island, whilst the streets are narrow, well kept and picturesque. This one is typical. Virtually every door has a religious icon over or beside, usually of Mary and baby Jesus.
