In the company of friends

I had an odd day, today. Up early and full of beans, enjoying a good day in the office, although feeling rather tired, this afternoon. 

The plan was that I'd drive down to the Minx's after work, go for a run, and then we'd spend the evening together but, in fact, all I did when I got there was fall asleep on her bed for two hours.

At some point during that time, she came up to tell me that Dom was there but I think I fell back to sleep again. Finally, though, I woke up feeling very relaxed and went downstairs to join them.

I popped open a bottle of wine and sat down. I'm always pleased to see Dom, he really is the loveliest fellow. At first, I was happy just to sit and listen to him chat with the Minx but, gradually, I joined in and we chatted about comics and physics and education and our kids and all sorts of things. 

It was blissful to spend some time with two people of whom I am so fond, to talk about interesting things and to find myself thinking "Wouldn't it be just fine if these two were in charge of everything."
