Today's the day ........................ to sniff

It's a well known fact that dogs have a super sense of smell. Some have 220 million or more olfactory receptors, compared with a puny 5 million for humans.

Springer spaniels like Benjie are up there with the best and that's why you'll find them at airports sniffing out illegal substances like explosives, narcotics - and even fake currency.  They can also be trained to find mushrooms, human remains - and in fact, probably anything you want - given the right encouragement.

A wet nose is essential to find the direction that the smell is coming from.  So just as well we had a slushy snow shower this afternoon to help Benjie in his sniff survey of the back garden ...........................
