Saint Michaels Church at Tirril
The same name but a different church. I keep saying I am not a big churchgoer but this is the second time in a week. This was a port in a storm, a place to take shelter from the blizzard from nowhere outside. It left at least three inches of fresh snow on the fells in the Lake District. Marks mother is buried in this churchyard and we had been visiting the memorial stone when out of nowhere came all this snow. So here I find myself and six other refugees. I started a conversation with this woman who was visiting the area and started to talk to her about pele towers and how this church was unusual because it had an original pele tower (12th Century) then the sides were added on later whereas most pele towers are at the end of a church (the tower) she shouted all her mates over and I ended up giving a little lecture and question and answer session afterwards. I pointed them all in the direction for the best Pele towers nearby and some of the most unusual. No money exchanged hands - honest!
