Beeswax on Meakin
I'm finishing off cooking this evening's dinner and decided to blip before I forget again.
Beeswax candles are amazing, the smell of this particular wax filling the room is heavenly. These are getting towards the end of their life but I may be able to use the remaining wax in a new candle. The Meakin bit relates to the plate. I love old plates (no matter how cheap or tacky) but anything with a little gilt edging or detail, even if worn, makes me smile.
I once applied for a job at Bonhams auctioneers many years ago and was told the salary was quite small to start with and it sounded like I'd start off as a runner/messenger, tea making person and would have to work my way up. At that time I had just graduated and couldn't afford to live on my own in London on that salary. How different things may have been if I'd taken that path? It's all part of the journey I guess.
Today I've been doing some of the minor corrections on my thesis and selling tat on ebay which has long outstayed it's welcome. A guy came up from Taunton to meet Mr H. He was very interesting. He makes bespoke wood burners and used to live locally. A steam train has also gone past the house twice hooting it's high pitched horn and blowing white smoke everywhere looks like silver service, old fashioned but not too luxurious, rather lovely - peep, peep!!
Tonight I am eating gravy courtesy of Mr Blanc and Tesco's root veg mash. It's deserved comfort food and I love it. Oh I did make a beef, pepper and shallot thing in the slow cooker too. Can you tell it is still winter?
