Just trying to survive

Cork. Gasket.

The transmission pan for the truck has a cork gasket. A cork gasket. I haven't seen a cork gasket in a vehicle since I was a very young child.

B and I now believe that the transmission has never been worked on since the truck was manufactured sixteen years ago.

Why was it leaking? Well, it wasn't entirely the gasket's fault. The transmission pan had become so loose that it was about to fall off. B was able to unscrew several bolts by hand without even having to loosen them with a tool.

Once again, a testament to how good this truck is to us, refusing to fall apart or stop working even against the odds. Ensuring that we get where we need to go in one piece.

Edit: Suspicions confirmed. The transmission filter had the Chrysler logo on it. It's the original filter, meaning it hasn't been changed once in sixteen years and over a hundred thousand miles.

We never cease to be amazed that this truck even runs.
