Thimble Islands

The Thimbles, off the Connecticut coast in the Long Island Sound, are an archipelago of 100 to 365 islands, depending on the tide and whether you count sandbars and reefs! The name is derived from the thimble berry that once grew on the islands in abundance. There are 25 inhabited islands with about 90 homes, many of which get their electricity from generators or propane! As you can see from this picture, the homes are quite picturesque, and it's a fascinating lifestyle! We are headed to New York City, so this will be my last rural scene for a while !!!
