Common lungwort

That slow build-up of excitement in the garden and countryside that happens in March is now clearly underway. Every saunter around the garden or ramble in the countryside will reveal something new until we enter the floral and entomological frenzy of May in the UK. This morning, more bulbs were showing and starting to open, but the thing that struck me was the multi-coloured flower heads of the Lungwort, Pulmonaria officinalis, standing proudly above the lovely carpet of spotted oval leaves that have been a feature right through the winter. These are beautiful flowers that, sadly, I will hardly notice as other flower excitement builds up.
