Red-shouldered Hawk
So. On the Move is the Chantler63's MonoMonday challenge. There wasn't a lot of moving here today, though I did go on a walk. As it happened, it turned out to be a lovely day for a walk - bright blue skies and almost actually warm for a change. Still snow to shuffle thru and slip on going up the hill, but after that, pretty clear sailing down the dirt road. And then I heard the sound of Red-shouldered Hawks - two of them! They finally appeared way overhead and were mostly entirely uncooperative as far as getting close enough for a decent shot. And completely uncooperative about both getting in the frame for me. They seemed to be maybe indulging in some kind of mating behavior? Anyway - I did get this shot of one of them, and was pleased to see that I even got it with its mouth open, since they are the hawk here that is known for calling as it flies. I would think any right thinking rodent would scurry for cover the moment they heard it, but maybe they think it's just a Blue Jay imitating a RSHA - as is their habit. Anyway - the hawks were definitely on the move! And a delight to behold.
Edit: Even nicer in color...
