My Blip Year!
A year ago I was recommended Blip by Andrew Whyte (legography) as a place to store my explorations of legography with my iPhone. Upon exploration, I decided to challenge myself to take a photo a day for a whole year. Every day.
I have a Nikon dslr which I love however with two young children, do not get the opportunity to use as much as I like. I once read that the best camera to use to take a photo is the one you have with you. For me, this is always my iPhone so that's what I have used!
To begin, I explored what the normal camera app could do, then discovering limitations, I branched out and purchased a couple of apps including Pure Shot which is now my favoured app.
As time went by, I began to notice my blips fell into certain categories and these most definitely continued throughout the year.
My blips are usually either planned, semi planned, accidental or emergency!
The planned ones are where I have taken time to specifically create a shot either based on a theme or idea, early on lots featured little lego lady!
Semi planned shots are where I know we are doing something specific in a day like a visit to a National Trust property and I know I will take a fair number of shots which will all be suitable blips. I usually only choose which will be the shot at the end of the day.
Accidental are those where I manage to capture a moment without intending it to be my blip. These most often feature my children funnily enough!
And then there are the emergency ones, which most people I've encountered on blip seem to have. Those days when life is just super busy and you don't have time for anything other than getting through the day. These are usually my least favourite shots but there are one or two I do like :)
I had a browse through my shots recently to see what kinds of things I have managed to capture over the year and recurring themes are: obviously the children; little Lego lady, (she comes and goes, and even had a trip to Venice!); lots of flowers, nature and outdoors and also a staggering amount of food!!!
I have enjoyed the challenge of taking a photo a day and it has certainly re-awakened my interest in photography. Outside of my blips, I have explored a little more of what I can do with my Nikon and had some opportunities to spend time just making pictures, most notably in Venice where I managed to capture some lovely images. I have however found it hard to keep up with a photo every day and now plan to blip a little more casually, when I have an image to share or record. I also would like to spend more time looking at other peoples images and getting inspiration for those days in the (probably long distant) future when I have more time to play!!
Sorry I have waffled on, but just want to add my thanks to those of you who frequently comment on my blips and for sharing your blips too :)
