On "Melancholy Wing"
Lovely walk around Seventy Acres Lake, the light was beautiful. I stood near Cheshunt Lock for quite a while as a pair of great crested grebes were mirroring one another with their crests raised. I thought they might progress to the weed dance but it didn't happen.
I shot swans, shovelers, gulls, mallards and magpies in flight but the star today was a heron. It was very bold and vocal, at one point it had a twig in its beak. Maybe it is building nearby?
John Clare coined the "melacholy wing" of my title. These birds are easy to photograph in flight because they "start slow".
