A Day At A Time.

A year ago today, we started to reeducate ourselves about the way we eat.

Why do adults tend to eat as though they are growing children? Three meals a day etc etc. No wonder I had been putting on weight over the past few years.

Dr Michael Mosely proposed a scientifically supported lifestyle change that would reap many benefits.

Studies of intermittent fasting show that not only do people see improvements in blood pressure and their cholesterol levels, but also in their insulin sensitivity.

As one of the medical experts who was interviewed put it: ‘There is nothing else you can do to your body that is as powerful as fasting.’

A side effect of intermittent fasting is you lose weight.

A year later and I can report a loss in weight of between 8 and 10 kilograms, a lowering of blood sugar to 103, far better liver and kidney function and a greatly reduced chance of heart disease.

And for us the greatest part of the fasting lifestyle is no calorie counting, special recipes, fancy supplements or group weighing sessions.

Twice a week, we eat nothing. It's so simple. The rest of the time we enjoy a normal diet, with all the yummy things we would find very hard to give up on other diets.

So, it works for us and we shall continue. Now it's a way of life and gives us the flexibility that few other regimens can.

Thanks Doc for taking us back to school!
