Little Verdin

My other little yellow bird is the Verdin.  He is only really yellow on his head, though   He's grey, otherwise.  While he's not always in my backyard, he's more common than the goldfinch.

The Verdin is basically an insectivore but likes nectar, too, when it's available.  He's got a bill that's not really conducive for getting into the hummingbird feeder. He's really funny to watch as he tries to find it spilled anywhere on it, even underneath,  to try to lap it up.

What I want to know is whether all birds have tongues?  The woodpecker did. That was a bit of a surprise.  The Verdin must!   I guess more research is in my future since only  the descriptions of the bills are in the guide books.
