The Pillowman

The Gaiety Theatre, Dublin.
Saw Emmylou there a few years ago - she said it was like playing inside a giant wedding cake.
Tonight things were considerably darker. In 'The Pillowman' by Martin McDonagh, a writer in a police cell is questioned about a series of child murders, the gory details of which closely mirror events in his own stories. One child bleeds to death having had his toes chopped off - since this is the least disturbing method of dispatch, I'll spare you the detail of the others.
Oh, and it's very funny in parts.
Could have been so much better though as the actor with the best lines (David McSavage) really didn't know how to deliver them. I haven't seen a player so out of his depth since Francis Jeffers retired.

The Gaiety is gorgeous inside and I took many snaps of it's glories, but given the nature of the material on stage, this unfortunate chap on the balcony above us had to be today's blip.
