Fat Ears and Flat Tires*
It was a stressful day. I took all my pictures with my phone so that I could write my post for today in the waiting room. But I didn't have to. Here's the story.
Sometimes it's best to be in denial. OilMan proved that today.
Last week Heather, the dermatologist, called to tell him that the biopsy of a growth on his ear was positive for melanoma.
I freaked out.
He joked around with Heather.
He was given an appointment today with Dr. Peng, the whiz kid surgeon with the red shoes
In the intervening days our neighbor, the doctor. explained in too much detail the gravity of the situaton.
I freaked out.
OilMan went to work.
Remind me NEVER to tell anyone in this situation a horror story that seems related. It probably isn't. A friend told us his in the parking lot after a nice dinner on Sunday.
I freaked out.
OilMan slept like a baby.
This evening, OilMan is missing a good chunk of his ear and will probably need a skin graft once they determine that they have gotten clear margins, but it is a non-invasive melanoma and will require no further treatment.
Just more frequent skin checks
Tonight I will sleep like a baby. (I hope).
*As we were driving to the appointment today, the tire pressure warning went off. By the time we got there, the tire was quickly going flat and we could hear the air hissing out of a hole made by a large piece of metal stuck in the tire. The fusion hybrid has no spare. OilMan read the owners' manual while we waited for Dr. Peng. When we got out, we had to remove the golf clubs from the trunk to get to the compressor with sealant that has replaced a spare. it worked beautifully, was a lot easier than jacking up the car and putting on a dinky spare, and got us across town to the tire place.
