Stairs at the Petit Palais

We went to a wonderful new exhibition on the "Baroque Underworld" (Bas-fonds du Baroque) in Rome--a catchy title that's a bit overdone.

The Petit Palais is a wonderful building directly across from the Grand Palais (appropriately).  Backblipped the next morning--more in a bit, as we're heading out again.

In the late afternoon we attended a presentation by our friend Liz from London on the elaborate treaty documents adopted by François 1er and Henry the 8th in 1520. Her field is paleography--the study of historical handwriting and inscriptions, and the meeting was part of France's celebration of the 500th anniversary of the beginning of François 1er's reign in 1515. Very technical, but enjoyable to see experts of this sort displaying their skills.

Edit:  My regular email commentator noted:  "It’s appropriate to show a spiral staircase in honor of François 1, given that he brought Leonardo to France and that Leonardo is suspected to have designed the great spiral staircase at François’s hunting lodge at Chambord."
