In The Occupied Territory

Stir it up

These two innocuous objects are called 'spurtles' .
They are a very Scottish thing and are mainly used for stirring porridge, but can also be used for sauces etc.
The one on the right was handmade by my late father in 2008. It is probably a tad too thick for everyday use, but it is a good keepsake.
The other one is well worn through being used every day for making our breakfast every day.
No rolled oats or such like for us, we use proper oatmeal which is soaked overnight with just a pinch, a very small pinch, of salt. 70gms is just enough for 2 people.
