Walk from Matlock Bath to Matlock

Today was one of those days with too many blip options.  From top left.
1, Parked at Matlock Bath Station and then proceeded up High Tor.
2. From High Tor (where we ate our sandwiches) you can see Riber Castle  (locally known as Smedley's folly - Mr Smedley built it and hten discovered it was really hard to get water up to the top of the hill!).  It is a huge Downton Abbey like castle which until recently was in disrepair.  It is now being converted into luxury apartments.
3. After descending High Tor we ascended Pic Tor at the top of which is the Matlock War Memorial of both World Wars.
4. At the foot was one name on its own.  It stood out!  Having done a wee bit of google research -
PRIME, Michael Frederick, Private 24198453, Royal Army Pay Corps Shot by sniper while on mobile patrol, by the Moira roundabout, MI Motorway, County Down. on the 16th February 1972 aged 18. Buried in St Giles Churchyard, Matlock, Derbyshire
5. Between the War memorial and the churchyard were these gates of rememberance.  Scattered around the graveyard were Headstones/Memorial Stines for those on the war memorial.  One young man died on the day after the armistice on 11th November 1918.  Sobering place.
