People Make Glasgow

Wow ... a blip without children in it!

Working in City Halls today and took my camera. Gorgeous blue skies in Glasgow and took lots of nice shots. I had difficulty choosing a blip today.

Chose this because I love the juxtaposition of the buildings that are being made in Glasgow with the statement "People Make Glasgow". These workers were literally 'making' Glasgow. There are so many new buildings going up around the city centre.

I've always been uneasy with the slogan "People Make Glasgow". It makes me want to just say ... 'well ... duh! ... of course they do'.

I know what they are trying to convey with this - that Glaswegians are inherently friendly welcoming folk who would give you their last penny. This is all true but somehow it also begs for those same Glaswegians famous for their witter banter to quite frankly take the piss out of the very slogan which is supposed to compliment the people in this city.

And it is pink ... which is also a Glasgow thing (go to Ikea in Glasgow and you shall witness an excess of pink, silver and black ... it's a Glasgow thing).

It also seems like it is a command: People, make Glasgow.
