St Catherine's Chapel, Lydiate

Wednesday 4th March 2015  (921)

Huddsbird arrived yesterday evening and we found a different Chinese Buffet to enjoy while we put the world to rights.

I had the early service this morning and a meeting this evening but apart from that it was a day off and what a great day we had!

We did a 5 mile walk around Lydiate and the weather was kind to us, although cold at times.  It took in the Trans Pennine route along the Cheshire Lines path, a section along the Leeds Liverpool Canal, as well as these ruins. St Catherine's Chapel is dated c 1500.

As well as the walk and photography I was introduced to a new pastime, that of geocaching.  With both of us using the GPS on our phones we found four caches along the route of our walk. The one we found in the grounds of the chapel contained a bonus trackable item, which it was then our duty to transport to another cache. It was all rather exciting! (I get excited over small things!) The trackable was a moose that had travelled from South England to Tenerife, Bulgaria, Denmark and back to England for a tour of the North.

At the end of the walk we had to do a reconnaissance of the local pub for lunch, for future reference. It was still early afternoon so I took Huddsbird to the craft shop I visited the other week. We looked for another cache nearby but, like others, couldn't find it.

Back to my house for a cuppa and a review of the geocache website. We then decided to go back out and take moose with us. We did another 2 mile walk and found 2 more caches, leaving moose behind in one.

Lots of fun and laughter along the way. A fab day. Many thanks Huddsbird!
