A sluice to nowhere

This is the old sluice gate which served a nearby tanning mill which is long gone. There is now a new estate of modern houses on the site of the old mill. I remember the smell which permeated the air in the locale - not exactly a pleasant aroma! I should think the nearby residents are very glad it's gone.
