On This Day

The gardens of Drumsheugh Gardens

The New Town and West End of Edinburgh have a good number of private gardens and parks. The private garden for Drumsheugh Gardens, where my office is located, is modest by comparison with many of the other private park spaces. Small though this garden is it does excite divided opinions which are set out here http://www.theguardian.com/edinburgh/2011/feb/04/edinburgh-private-parks-david-hill.

On days when these private gardens are opened to the public it's easy to appreciate their loveliness, but they are a pretty strong sign of the privilege which comes with owning property in this part of the city.

Needless to say I wasn't on the hallowed turf and had to stick the camera through the railings to take this photograph. I liked the way the railings and the trees made shadows on the grass.
