Lit up
Headed to an event this evening straight from work - like many of the other trainees. As previously it was held in the City Chambers thanks to the support of the Council and as I walked down the Royal Mile the combination of the rising moon and the uplift crown of St Giles was worth a blip.
The evening consisted of a talk by Alastair Gaw - head of children's services - who gave a fascinating overview of the challenges and opportunities facing social work in the city. As ever, resources featured in the discussion but the development of new ways of working and the initiatives in parts of the city were of considerable interest.
From the chats I had with some of the trainees the evening had reinforced their interest in being part of the hearings system and helping to clarify their role as decision makers and what they might expect of social workers.
Another formal training day on Saturday!
