Stuck in the middle

So tonight, Mme T and I escaped the shackles of parenthood and ventured into town for an early dinner at Yo Sushi and then on to the Waterfront Hall to watch the stage show version of Radio 4's I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. I can't decide whether this evening was incredibly middle class or incredibly middle aged. Probably both.

We'd never been to Yo Sushi before, and once we got our heads round the slightly bizarre way of doing things, we really enjoyed it. I had to have words with Mme T about not taking the dishes off the conveyor belt, sampling them, and them putting them back on, but she soon got the hang of it.

The show was exactly what you'd expect, if you've ever listened to the radio version. I'd thought that Humphrey Lyttleton was irreplaceable, but I reckon Jack Dee is a worthy successor. He carries the show with his dry, grumpy, begrudging wit in a way that now feels completely natural. It's a gentle, good-natured show, and after having listened to it for so many years it was fun to watch it being performed live. It's hard to believe Barry Cryer is nearly 80 - what a trouper.
