Ron & Liz

Ron and Liz are the owners and operators of the Blue Butterfly, a Bed & Breakfast located on the Merced River, just outside Yosemite National Park. They are here on their deck overlooking the river.

Liz is a retired art and photography teacher and Ron is a retired auto mechanic.

Ron is also widely known as a serious and longtime rock climber in the Yosemite Valley. He has climbed El Capitan three times and has an obvious love of climbing..

Ron explained the use of bolts in rock faces. They have been placed with hangers as a permanent installation. Originally 1/4 inch steel bolts were placed, however steel rusts and loses its strength. A program is underway among the climbing community to upgrade bolts to 3/8 diameter in stainless steel which doesn't rust and should result in safer climbing for many years.

When asked what it is like being the wife of a climber, Liz responded by saying, "I have to hold supper on many nights".
