Flying Goat Coffee
The new Peet's? Just maybe...
I persuaded OilMan and Ozzie to come with me to Flying Goat Coffee this morning. It's about as far from our house as one can get and still be in Santa Rosa, so we can't walk there as we did to the "old" Peets but the coffee is worth the drive, and it's in an interesting neighborhood called Railroad Square. There are some tables beside the building ,but at 8:30am they were in deep shadow and not inviting. There are always at least a few people hanging out on the railroad tracks where it is sunny, but that wasn't inviting either. We had seen some freight cars going by on this completely unprotected track just steps from the front door of the building.
There are tables inside in a couple of rooms, but Ozzie isn't invited inside. We finally found a nice little patio in the sun on the other side of the building and managed to eat our scones and finish our coffee before a couple of really loud young women joined the group at the next table, and we decided it was time to move on.
I like this part of town which hasn't changed much in a hundred years--little frame houses, soup kitchens, upscale restaurants, old brick warehouses, and interesting businesses, all within a few blocks bounded by the freeway on one side and the shopping center on the other.
I took a picture of a vintage clothing/costume shop called Disguise the Limit with a clever display in the window… a Marilyn Monroe mannequin in the famous white halter dress standing over a fan instead of the sidewalk vent in the iconic Hollywood shot. Might be a promising place to find a cool costume if we're ever invited to a Halloween party….
