Red Devil 2

Aha! I caught sight of the big hunting wasp in the open when I just happened to have my camera at the ready. Last time he peered down at me from a fennel flower, but this time he was intent on  getting to the shelter of the nearby Fuchsia. This gave me the opportunity to see the way it moves. Very strange, like micro jerks, almost robotic. It was about 20mm long, maybe more. I know from experience that these wasps deliver a painful sting. They prey on large spiders.

I like the spiky leg shadows.

The sunshine didn’t last long. We had another 5mm of rain in the night.
