Degerö Estate
When the trees blossom with leaves this estate can not be seen from this direction. We were promised a day of sunshine and this is what we got. More greyness. More wet wet wet. It's like fall :-(
Degerö estate is a listed building, so basically the people who own it can not change anything inside or outside or anything that changes the nature of yard. Degerö is the Swedish name of the island we live in. The estate was first built in 1818. Owners changed a lot in the beginning. 1879 it was bought by a lawyer Robert Castrén to use as a summer house. There was farming up until 1940's. In 1950's the manor house was taken into a year round use. Most of the land was sold to City of Helsinki in 1958.
In 2008, the manor house as well as the approximately five-acre park-like mansion area with numerous residential and commercial buildings was still in the possession of the heirs of Castrén. People actually live there. It's right next to the sea, which you unfortunately can't see from this direction. Address is Pastor road 1. Cool address, right?
About the picture. I took advantage of the steam that the lens had built in my pocket. Kind of a ghostly effect. ;-)
