That is taken from the plaque on this memorial, which is an old colliery winding-wheel.
I refereed a youth football game this morning at Calverton Miners Welfare., now a sports and social club serving the Calverton community. There is a fine clubhouse and there are some first class sports facilities.
The memorial itself, which stands outside the club entrance, is dedicated to Calverton Colliery and its workforce. The colliery was closed in the nineties, and to that degree the heart of this community, like many others, was damaged.
Now the memorial doubles as a war memorial, and there is a yearly religious service held at it to commemorate those lost in two world wars, and the now passed miners.
