A happy Fisherman with a bucket of fish offal...

..who has discovered a community of whelks whose whereabouts I have no consent to disclose but are anxiously
waiting for their breakfast. It will be their last ! Now I have to
confess a plate of whelks has never appealed due to their
rubbery appearance although a son-in-law on a visit to
Scarborough cannot rest until he has downed a couple of
platefuls! But I digress. These whelks are destined for a much
longer journey. They are a rare delicacy in Korea where very
high prices are paid. Perhaps they have properties which the
locals as yet are unaware! Even the whelk shells enter the food
chain. They are ground up and mixed in with chicken feed so
when we crack our egg at the breakfast table it is interesting
to think that little bits of it have been someone's home
full fathoms five off the Yorkshire coast.
