Nice day for it...
Well, it was, then it wasn't, then it was, then it wasn't again. It's fair to say the weather was changeable. The one consistent thing was that it was windy, which would have been great for these guys.
Pretty good for us too, we were out of a training exercise on the lifeboat for a couple of hours and it got pretty lumpy out in the channel. We were practicing man overboard manoeuvres. In fairness it's pretty unlikely that we'll need to use it much ourselves as our helms are all very experienced and well trained. There's no telling if we might have to get someone else out the water though and it was good to get practice in conditions like today as I've only ever done it on calm days before and we're more likely to need to do it in rough weather than on a calm day.
Our helm, Mike also demonstrated the difference in handling in weather like today with and without a full ballast tank, it was quite a difference. We had some great fun punching through some deep swell, although it was pretty uncomfortable landing on the waves at times. I'm pretty sure you don't need every disk between your vertebrae though.... :D
Jokes aside it was a great experience and fantastic to gain practice and confidence in lumpier conditions.
