Leucistic Carrion Crow
The only birds around this wet and windy day were crows, rooks and jackdaws. I took a lot of shots through the window and have chosen this Carrion Crow because of his white feathers - a form of leucism (partial lack of melanin in the feathers). Leucism is a very unusual condition where the pigmentation cells in a bird fail to develop properly resulting in white patches appearing in the feathers. Sometimes it is confused with albinism. The easiest way to tell the difference between the two is that in albinism the eyes are usually pink or red, and albinism affects the entire bird. Unfortunately my Crow has his eyes closed but from other shots where I didn' catch the feathers sharp enough I could see his eyes were normal Crows eyes. You can see more by clicking HERE.
Have a nice day!
