Reading in bed this morning....

....one of the joys of retirement!  I found this little book fascinating.

Some items:

"Pimple Ointment
Take 6 drachms of mercury, 6 grains of flour of sulphur, 2 ounces of hogs-lard; mix carefully in a mortar.

"Of the Hedgehog.
Take the skin of the Hedge-Hog, and let it be made like a night-cap with the prickles and put it on the sick-bodies head, that therein is pained, it will procure him ease and make him sleep well.
Occult Physick, 1660"

I won't go into the details of how to remove a tapeworm by swallowing a baited trap on a string!  Also perhaps best not to try the cure for morphine which contained quite a lot of .....morphine, advertised in 1907.
