Women and electoral violence
Not a particularly good photo but I admit to a liking for smart older women who can wear a scarf with impeccable elegance (my mom being one as well).
Tonight after work I popped over to the Armenian cultural center for one of the UN Women's conference side events, got waylaid into the arts and crafts bazaar while mistakenly waiting on entrance to the central ballroom (oops, wrong event), and finally made my way to where I had wanted to go. Slightly misadvertised and rather uneven (the Burundi presenter doing a heroic job on last-minute notification and in non-native English: but the NDI presenter ultimately doing the most constructive analysis, notwithstanding NDI controversy): but really exciting to hear from the ground level thoughtful perspectives on combating electoral violence and threats to democratic process, and measures to be undertaken even if rather general.
Cringe and moved to anger every time mention is bluntly made of the subordinate status of women.
