The Watering Hole
I was of two minds whether to mention this or not, but as this is supposedly a journal of my day to day life I guess I should.
This morning we took Dylan to the vets to be put to sleep. For the last two years Dylan has suffered from diabetes and dry eye syndrome. This required twice daily injections of insulin and the application of eye drops five or six times a day. He has been coping with this quite well, after the initial reluctance to take the drops. But over the last few weeks he has become increasingly aggressive towards his treatment to the stage where it has been impossible to apply the drops. His aggression has also shown in other areas, such as ‘stealing’ things, something he has always done, but now guarding much more closely to the point where he attacked Ann and left bruising and teeth marks on her leg. In between the bouts of aggression Dylan has been his usual loving, enthusiastic self, making the decision the much more difficult.
As can be imagined we’ve been pretty cut up about this most of the day, though I did manage to get to a customer later this afternoon after which I went for a walk with my camera along the cycle and footpath known as The Greenway by Stratford’s racecourse.
Later we had a surprise visit from Tracey, the groomer, and Jane, the blipper, who were lovely and understanding and were a real tonic to our sad mood.
