If you can't beat them...

St Micheal's Church Barton

As the weather was lovely I needed to go to the Lodge to continue with a garden project I am working on.  Because there are road works near Junction 40 on the M6 which has been causing tailbacks I decided to take the scenic route.

As I drove I was looking for blip possibilities.  I noticed St Micheal's Church and realised I don't think I have every visited it let alone blipped it, so I made the short detour.

St Micheal's has the only central Norman tower in Cumbria.  The building is listed with parts dating back to 12th Century (the Tower and Knave) the youngest part is work done in  the 14th century to lengthen the chancel.  Interestingly it stands in a circular church yard.
