Fungii

I took Jasper for a walk along the Kahikatea track this evening.  It's a beautiful bush walkway down near the river.  I came around a bend and this  beast caught the corner of my eye.  

It seemed to glow in the gloom under a giant kahikatea tree.  It is about 60 cm (2 feet) high and at least 30cm across.  I've never seen one like it and I have no idea what it is but I'm sure one of you fungii buffs can set me straight.
