Being a Blade......is just like this.
They lost 8-7 on penalties.
I lost £4.70 buying an ice cream and a bottle of water. Robbed more like.
Apart from the result, we've had a corker of a day really. We did a pre-match trip to the British Museum, not somewhere I have been before - stunning throughout. The building alone is breath-taking. Saw tons of cool Egyptian, Roman and Greek artefacts that fascinated us both.
A lunch at Pizza Express, and then off to Wembley....
Both teams were not at their best, but had chances (they had the closer ones). We cooked for hours in the searing heat(my face is as red as these seats now!), and when they shut the bars in the second half they were giving away water for free to prevent health problems. Made me feel a little better for the £2.20 mini-bottle I got just before the match (can you tell I'm still annoyed about that?!).
So, after 120 mins of no-goal action we witnessed the longest penalty shoot-out I have ever seen. Ups and downs throughout, but someone had to miss eventually. It was our goalie in the end, but if it wasn't for some superb saves from him during the game itself, we wouldn't have been in it at that point - so no hard feelings towards him at all.
It's only a game: just an expensive, frustrating, time-consuming, annoying, addictive, passionate, wonderful, hell of a game is all ;)
Still a big Blade - being a fan is all about supporting your team in the downs as well as the ups. It'll happen......one day.....and when it does we will be seen cheering loudly with thousands of others, rather than being shown live on Sky, alone, thinking about what could have been.....
