What a lovely day:-

for Roman Parsley

I have always thought it surprising that the Romans never came to the Isle of Man.  Having gone to the trouble of building Hadrian's Wall many of the Western fortifications of the Wall are in plain view of the Island.

Who knows I may yet be proved right because the Island abounds with Alexanders or Roman Parsley.  It is a member of the carrot family and is of Mediterranean origin.  As the name suggests it was brought to the UK by the Romans.  It thrives in a mild climate and thus is found in maritime areas.

It certainly thrives down our road, and where, like a legion of Septimus Severus it advances each year.

All parts of the plant are reputed to be edible and delicious.  Every year I always say "I must give Alexanders a try"

Perhaps it will happen this year.......
