The Kiltwalking Trustee

Is the way we think about charity wrong?

Too many nonprofits, are rewarded for how little they spend, not for what they get done. Instead of equating frugality with morality, should we start supporting and recognising charities for their big goals and big accomplishments?

I read articles where people say they're sickened The Kiltwalk only donated £776,406 of its income to Scotland's Children's Charities and causes in 2013.

That figure, which is part of £2.4m distributed to charity partners and other children’s causes nominated by our walkers over a three year period, enabled The Aila Coull Foundation to fund the 1st EVER Acute Myeloid Leukaemia Research Project.

Since October 2014 The Kiltwalk and KIltwalk Teams have donated £145,690 to Yorkhill Children's Charity which is going towards making the Kids A&E Department at the new Southern Hospital a less scarier place for kids who are unfortunate enough to end up there.

Team Aine have raised nearly £27,000 for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation by doing Kiltwalks across Scotland, where some of the money raised went towards a new gamma camera and CT scanner.

Finally, Follat used £8,000 raised by taking part in The Kiltwalk for new play areas in Luss and Balloch, while other funds they'd raised went to support activity days out and breaks in the National Park for hundreds of disadvantaged and special needs children from nearby towns.

I'd say that's Social Innovation at it's best. Let's change the way we think about helping Scotland's Children. Let's Kiltwalk!!
